Coffee and tea tasting in Waipoli Forest, Upcountry Maui complete with a 45-minute farm tour and 3-course brunch with locally sourced ingredients at O'o Farms | Meghan Kennedy 5/29/24
Eager for a taste of fresh Hawaiian produce we spent one morning of our honeymoon on O'o Farm Maui for a delightful coffee and tea tasting complete with a 45-minute farm tour and a 3-course brunch.
We were so grateful for the opportunity to support several local farms while visiting Maui. If you know us well you know how important supporting local and sustainable business is to us. Read about our other Maui farm visits here.
It was a delightful treat to talk to our guide and fellow farmer, Kenady. We loved learning about their bountiful never-ending harvest season, what they're growing on their 8 acres, and how they're supporting their regenerative farm and community post Lahaina fires.
Regenerative farming uses the entire ecosystem - working together in harmony to produce a bountiful harvest.
"It is a conservation and rehabilitation approach to food and farming systems. It focuses on topsoil regeneration, increasing biodiversity, improving the water cycle, enhancing ecosystem services, supporting biosequestration, increasing resilience to climate change, and strengthening the health and vitality of farm soil."
It was neat to compare our CSA here in NJ with their CSA in Maui! They grow blackberries, nasturtiums, fennel, and so many similar greens, herbs, and garden veggies - all included in our 3-course brunch. We loved learning about their coffee production on the farm.
The chef graciously walked us through all the intentional ingredients included in the 3-course brunch. Crafted exclusively with fresh farm and local ingredients our brunch included loquat, rainbow chard, venison, free-range eggs, edible flowers, sourdough, jams and so much more.
FULL MENU
(1) signature coffee cherry spiced honey buns with candied farm preserves and tropical fruit salad (2) spiced maui nui venison, braised beets and carrots, field green slaw, lemon-herb parsnip purée, house-pickled beet spread, toasted rice, and quinoa
(3) loaded vegetable frittata with farm eggs, beet, daikon, fennel, arugula, mustard greens, broccolini, summer squash, herbs, kale, herbed green pesto
Can't forget about all the farm-to-table coffee which was continuously poured into our cups. Coffee is grown right on the farm - which we picked and tasted on our tour in addition to loquat and blackberries.
The brunch included over 42 locally grown or sourced ingredients!
If you're flying to Maui - visiting O'o Farm is a must-do experience. It was a unique and delicious way to directly support local agriculture and regenerative farming!
Cheers, Meghan
