You all know I love to bake - no holiday is complete without a celebratory cake from scratch!
For galentine's brunch w. my high school crew (NHS 2011 is our group chat name) I wanted to try out the trending heart-shaped cake.
I used our 9x9" square pan + a 9" circular cake pan.
I've been playing around with my own cake + frosting recipes but my go-to vanilla cake recipe at the moment is @magnoliabakery's vanilla birthday cake w. buttercream frosting.
It measured out perfectly for our heart-shaped cake. You can find the complete recipe here.
My tips:
Don't be afraid to use your kitchen gadgets! I love using my hand mixer + different spatulas to craft the perfect consistency. I always say that I mix with love - and it's true.. the mixing impacts your consistency big time!
Print the recipe out, turn the music up, put the phone down + be present in the moment. Baking is so rewarding this way.
Invest in an oven thermometer - trust me this confirms that you're always baking at the proper temperature. Consistency is everything!
Don't cheap out on bad vanilla - our go-to favorite that is reasonably priced is the @traderjoes pure bourbon vanilla extract.
This particular cake recipe yields quite a lot of cake - so be prepared to share! If you're not feeling the heart shape - you'll need three cake pans as it's a three-layer cake recipe.
